With the start of the new year and semester, there is much for Clintonians to look forward to, including new movies. 2026 is stacked with incredible new releases spanning different genres, so for Clintonians of many interests, it’s a good time to hit theaters for a needed stress relief.
the moment (2026)

The first release is The Moment, starring pop star Charli XCX. The mockumentary follows a fictionalized version of Charli XCX navigating “the complexities of fame and industry pressure”, according to its description, preparing for a tour debut. The marketing for the film has many fans confused on whether it is fictional or a documentary. Alice Wilding, a 10th grader at Clinton says ,“I was confused at first when I saw the posters because it looked very similar to the Brat album, and all I saw was Charli XCX. I’m excited now though to watch the movie, it seems like it has a unique style.”
GOAT (2026)

The next movie being released on February 13th is GOAT, a movie following a goat trying to play professional “roarball” despite being a smaller animal. This movie has all the perfect themes for a feel good family watch. The movie is produced by Sony Pictures, who also produced the hit, K-Pop Demon Hunters, which broke Netflix’s record for most watched film ever on the platform with 482 million views. If any animated movie is going to be on your list, it should be this one!
Scream 7 (2026)

Classic horror movie fans will run to theaters on February 27th with the newest addition in one of the longest horror franchises, Scream 7. The series took a hit in late 2023 with some controversy surrounding the franchise after firing Melissa Barrera, one of their leads for the past two movies, due to political comments made on social media. Her and co-star Jenna Ortega’s characters have been written off. Nevertheless, fans are still excited to see Neve Campbell as Sidney Presscott and another movie. If you are a fan of classic scares like Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street, this should definitely be worth a watch.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026)

A long time coming, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was announced to be in theaters May 1st, and 2000s rom-com lovers are through the roof. The plot is based on Miranda Priestly and her struggle with ex-assistants Emily Charlton and Andy, building off the storyline in its first film. Bringing back Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep while adding new actors like Simone Ashley, this release is sure to bring nostalgia from many’s favorite fashion movie. Many fans must be overjoyed at seeing the unlikely duo between Streep and Hathaway’s characters on screens again.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026)

Although these two films are not set to release until later, they might be some of the most anticipated for 2026. Ever since Suzzanne Collins announced the film adaptation of her newest book, Sunrise on the Reaping, Hunger Games fans have been abuzz. The installation in Collins’ series is a prequel, so the cast and storyline will be different from The Hunger Games fans know and love. Aubrey Weiner, a 10th grader and fan of Collins’ books says, “I first started watching the Hunger Games in 5th grade, and I became obsessed, and then I read the books and they were even better. I’m so excited for the new movie and I’ve already made plans. Catching Fire is my favourite movie.” With a cast including Maya Hawke, Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, Elle Fanning and Ralph Fiennes, the fanbase of Collins is ecstatic for November. It’s not a guess that tickets will be sold out when it releases.
The Odyssey (2026)

Set to hit theaters on July 17th, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey may be the biggest film of 2026. The cast consists of Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, all of which are in multiple films this year, as well as Matt Damon. As an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek tale, the movie has big shoes to fill. If you are a fan of adventure, or just a Percy Jackson fan wanting to see more Greek mythology, this release should absolutely be on your summer bucket list.
As the stress of 2nd semester and winter bore starts to creep in, Clintonians will look forward to any or all of these films, and should head over to the AMC on 19th Street to enjoy a scare, a laugh or even a good cry. No matter your interest, 2026 is a year for exciting movies and there is a release for every Clintonian.
