Unbearable winds and freezing temperatures that make your fingers go numb aren’t stopping New Yorkers from enjoying a cup of cold and tangy frozen yogurt. This icy treat has always been a good classic, but recently it’s becoming all the rage. New frozen yogurt places like Mimi’s and Birdies have been raising the competition from the ones that used to be favorites, like Pinkberry and 16 Handles. Many Clintonians are found talking about their weekend plans to go enjoy some fro-yo. There are so many amazing fro-yo places, but which one is the best? Which one is the healthiest? Which fro-yo place is worth the risk of losing some fingers?
Mimi’s frozen yogurt has been very popular since its opening in August 2025. It was created by two Australians who moved to New York and missed a place where they could enjoy a sweet treat that isn’t too sugary. That is when the idea of Mimi’s sparked; fro-yo that doesn’t make you feel heavy or sick after, and is served in a chill and upbeat environment. They have flavors like signature tart, chocolate, vanilla, matcha, raspberry, mango, and other seasonal flavors. They also have many toppings like cookie dough, fruits, chocolate crunch sauce, granola, and pistachio drizzle.
Inside the shop, you self-serve your froyo and toppings, then you can take a seat around the various plants they have scattered across the store. Alice Wilding, a sophomore at Clinton, says, “Mimi’s is delicious, very high quality, and not too sugary. Usually, when I eat 16 handles, my stomach doesn’t feel good afterwards, but with Mimi’s it’s the complete opposite.” If you are looking for a trendy and nice cup of froyo with toppings galore, Mimi’s seems to be the place!
Birdies
Birdies is an adorable spot on a corner in the West Village. It’s inspired by the founder’s dog, whose name is Birdie, with designs of him covering the inside’s wallpaper. The shop is decorated with an antique type of interior that makes you feel like you’re in a cottage or at a modern diner.
The fro-yo flavors are vanilla, peanut butter, chocolate, tart, coffee, and vegan chocolate. They have a “Premium Toppings” system, where if you get a premium topping like dark chocolate crunch, you can get a free normal topping like strawberries.
They also have toppings like cinnamon toast crunch, mochi, cookie dough, olive oil, biscoff crunch, and cheesecake bites. Each serving is a perfect swirl of fro-yo, with toppings included both covering the bottom and sprinkled on the top. There is also a candy bar, which offers sour candies, classic sweets, and chocolates. Birdies is a cozy environment to enjoy your fro-yo with complex toppings that are always there for your cravings.
Butterfield Market
If you’re ever on the Upper East Side, Butterfield Market is a must-try. This market serves delicious prepared meals, savory and sweet snacks, as well as fro-yo, which is a top pick by locals. Abby Solomon, a sophomore at Clinton, says that Butterfield’s fro-yo has “great portions and it’s really creamy.” They have yummy flavors to choose from like peanut butter or vanilla, as well as classic toppings like fruits or oreos. Butterfield has been in the small luxury bodega business since 1915, so they know how to make high-quality treats and foods that fit your needs every time you go. Their fro-yo is neither too tarty nor too sugary, but just right.
Culture An American Yogurt Company
Culture, with locations near the West Village and Brooklyn, focuses on healthy, clean, and housemade yogurt when it comes to their fro-yo. Their flavors are unlike those of any other fro-yo shops. They serve different flavors every time you go like apricot, red velvet cake, or unsweetened pineapple. The toppings are made in-house by their chef, who is also the owner.
The shop is lined by brick walls and has other necessities like juices, yogurts, or cakes that are all made in-house. Culture carries good intentions for the health of their consumers, making their fro-yo with love and fresh ingredients. Their fro-yo is tangy and refreshing, and it tastes even better knowing that it’s made from hormone-free and antibiotic-free milk!
Clinton students are lucky with the number of fro-yo places they can choose from, and after a tough week of school, a good treat is recommended. To keep your positivity flowing from week to week, frozen yogurt might just be the refreshment that you need!
