On Wednesday, December 17th, during the last two periods of school, club leaders, along with the guidance of the student council, transformed the gym into a winter carnival full of games, candy, and prizes for 9th and 10th graders to attend. This event allowed club leaders and 9th and 10th grade students alike to take a much-needed break as they finished up their last tests before the break.
Each club was allowed its own table or could share with another club. Club leaders could decorate and bring whatever activities, games, or treats they wanted, as the student council wanted to make the event really magical for students.
Some popular tables were the Key Club’s unlock-the-lock game, similar to pin the tail on the donkey, where participants had to wear a blindfold, spin around 5 times, and try their best to get the key into the lock for a piece of well-deserved candy. Another popular booth was the Hoodies For The Homeless Club, where students could decorate their own gingerbread man sugar cookie with colored icing and winter-themed sprinkles!
Kelly Li, a club leader of the Key Club, said, “It was nice to see students excited to play our game and win candy. Many of them were even arguing with each other to see who could line up and play first! I think this winter carnival was a great success.
Those attending the winter carnival could see Clinton teachers, faculty, and the Clinton Hawk walking around, interacting with tables, and some even playing the games themselves! Like Mr. Jacobi, Mr. Snyder, and Ms. Van Dokkum, who played the Key Club’s unlock the lock game, and Ms. Schaffzin, who got her picture taken at the Peer Leader’s booth, where students and teachers could get their picture taken with an Instax Camera and even keep it themselves to have a memory of the event.
Many students, such as Cora Reily, a Peer Leader, agreed that this annual tradition was a successful event, saying, “I really had fun during this event. I loved being able to not only run my club’s table but also walk around to other clubs and see what they were doing, like ASU’s table. I’m excited to be able to participate in this event next year as well!”
The Winter Carnival concluded at the end of the school day, after which students were dismissed. The Carnival is expected to return next year with new booths and club leaders to make each event unique.
